Dressed in Growth
Letting Go of Old Identities and Embracing My True Reflection
Lately, I’ve been less interested in chasing trends and more curious about alignment—about what it means to feel like me in the clothes I choose. Not the past version of me, or the aspirational one I’ve imagined. Just… me, right now.
These three style shifts have been some of the most empowering changes I’ve made. They aren’t about rules or fashion hacks—they’re about resonance. About dressing in a way that honors the person I’ve become.
1. Prioritizing Fit Over Size
Our bodies carry stories—of pregnancies, hormone shifts, stress, grief, healing, aging. They change. And yet, for years, I chased a number on a tag like it was a badge of worth.
But here’s the truth: size is a moving target. It varies wildly across brands, sometimes even within the same store. What doesn’t change is the feeling of wearing something that fits well—something that moves with you, not against you.
Prioritizing fit over size has been liberating. It’s not just more flattering; it’s more respectful. It says: I deserve to feel good in my body as it is today—not as it used to be, or how I think it should be.
2. Choosing Color with Intention
For years, black was my uniform. It was safe. Invisible. Easy to blend in. But recently, I’ve been rethinking my relationship with color—not as trend, but as emotion.
Color has become a quiet form of self-expression and self-care. I now reach for shades that reflect how I feel, or how I want to feel: grounded browns, calming blues, energizing reds. It’s less about hiding, more about revealing. More about showing up—vibrantly, truthfully—as I am.
I wrote more deeply about this in The Color Cure, a recent post on how I’ve found healing and aliveness in bringing color back into my life.
3. Investing in Quality Over Quantity
I used to chase the thrill of fast fashion. The quick hit of a new piece, the low price tag, the instant gratification. But it always faded fast—into clutter, disappointment, and clothes that didn’t last.
These days, I’m drawn to fewer, better things. A beautiful pair of earrings that makes every outfit feel intentional. A jacket with structure and soul. A bag that doesn’t scream for attention, but quietly elevates everything.
Quality doesn’t always mean expensive. It means thoughtful. It means investing in what lasts—not just in fabric, but in feeling.
It also means becoming more conscious of the impact my choices have—not just on my closet, but on the world. Brands like Shein offer tempting prices, but behind those tags are harmful systems: exploitative labor practices (especially for women and children), mountains of textile waste, and environmental damage from toxic dyes to landfill overflow.
I can't fix all of that alone. But choosing fewer, better pieces feels like a small, meaningful rebellion. A way to opt out of harm and opt into presence.
What’s Shifting for You?
These are the changes I’ve made—and am still making. They’ve helped me feel more at home in my skin, and more aligned with the woman I’m becoming.
What about you? What’s been shifting in your style lately? I’d love to hear what you’re noticing—about your clothes, your choices, and how they reflect the life you’re living now.
